Referencing the introduction already made above, this is a notice to all aspirants who wish to apply for admission into any of the universities in Nigeria to study Botany under the faculty of Sciences that the list of compulsory subjects as well as optional subjects required in O level result (WAEC and NECO) before applying for admission into Botany has been published in this post.
As mentioned above, some of these NECO and WAEC subject requirements are compulsory which means you need to have at least a minimum of Credit passes (C6) in them in your o level result before you can use it to apply for admission to study Botany.
Also, keep in mind that some schools may have special subject combination requirements for the subjects that are eligible to be used in JAMB before one can gain admission into Botany. Irrespective of the subjects required by each school, English Language and Mathematics are compulsory subjects that you need to pass before you can gain admission to study Botany.

O Level (WAEC and NECO) Subject Requirements For Botany
The WAEC subjects required to study Botany are as follows:
Five SSCE Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Special Requirements (Waiver) Remarks
(i) UNN requires credit in English language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in the West African School Certificate Examination or G.C.E. ‘O’ level or its equivalent.
(ii) IGBINEDION accepts credit pass in Science Subject in lieu of Physics.
(iii) OAU accepts Agric Science.
(iv) UDUSOK and UNIMAID accept pass in Mathematics and English Language.
(v) DELSU does not require a credit in Physics but accepts a
pass in English Language provided candidates has distinction in O/L Biology.
(vi) UNIUYO requires a Credit pass in Mathematics and Physics.
(vii) GOMSU accepts P7 in Physics.
(viii) UNIBEN and ABSU accept a pass in Physics.
(ix) UNIBADAN requires 5 or 6 ‘O’ level credits passes at one or two sittings include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any one or two of Physics, Geography and Agric Science.
(x) KSUST accepts Geography, Economics and Agriculture in lieu of Biology as O Level subjects.
(xi) JABU accepts Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.
(xii) OOU requires five ‘O’ level credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
(xiii) JABU accepts five O level credit passes in relevant subjects plus ND and NCE.
(xiv) FUAM Candidates seeking admission into any of these Programmes must possess five (5) credit passes which MUST be from one examination body (i.e. either WAEC or NECO) and obtained at NOT more than two (2) sittings. The Department does not accept the combination of both WAEC and NECO. Students of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi Pre-degree Remedial Science Programme who pass their end of session examinations are considered or admission on the condition that they also pass UTME. NOTE: Agricultural Science and Health Science shall NOT be accepted in place of Biology. Further Mathematics shall NOT be accepted in place of Physics or Mathematics.
(xv) GODFREY accepts credit pass in any other Science subject in lieu of Physics.
(xvi) PAUL requires five SSCE credit passes at not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
(xvii) ABSU requires five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
(xviii) OSUSTECH requires five O’ level credit passes in English language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any one of Agricultural Science, Physics and Geography.
(xix) KWASU requires credit passes from English Language, Mathematics and any three of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics and Agricultural Science.
(xx) MCPHERSON accepts Five ‘O’ level credit passes in relevant subjects plus ND(upper credit), HND (upper credit) and NCE (merit).
(xxi) FED-OYEEKITI accepts five ‘O’ level Credit passes to include English language and Mathematics and any three of Biology, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Agricultural Science and Geography.
(xxii) BSU for Plant Science and Biotechnology accepts passes in five (5) prescribed subjects in Preliminary Science of BSU in addition to minimum UTME score
